The destination high up!!

There are a lot of reasons why people look upto God and try to find solace and comfort in the supreme being. When we think about it, this action of looking up to God is at different levels. But do remember - each level is important in its own way.

Anyways - Think about a small child who sees his / her parents praying and follows the actions.
That prayer is so pure - because there is no "request" from the child.
For him - God is just GOD. Nothing else.

Somewhere between the time we grow up, we loose that fact God is GOD. For many or if I may - most of us - God is a resource whom you turn to when you want things, when you want certain things to happen certain way. When it does not go the way we want it, we then question the very same supreme being to whom we submitted the requests to. God is so benevolent that he has bestowed upon each and every one of us, everything that we need - which may or may not match with each of us want. Yet, we are never satisfied. There is always this "if only just this one more thing could happen" is a constant thought with the only change being in "the thing that needs to happen". Is it possible for us to be content with what we have? Is it possible for us to pray for nothing?

At various stages of our lives, we try to bring our life upto a higher level, feeling closer to GOD. The reasons for this is multifold and some people are successful in the venture, some give up easily.

For me, my current phase in my life, I have opted for a lot of positive changes for two important reasons

1. I think I have commited enough sins - manasa, vaacha, karmana - through my thoughts, my words and my actions - some of which I am angry about, some which I am ashamed about, and some of which I do not even remember about. But I do think an atonement is in order. I mean, a serious atonement with focused eradication of sins. If I do not take the steps to find and nurture the good in me, I will be unable to nurture the same good thoughts and feelings in my future generation.

2. When you give a sense object something to think about constantly, after sometime, that thought becomes a habit. The sense object I am talking about is our mind. If you constantly remember GOD, before every thing you do, you do not think whether it is good for you or not - you think whether or not what you are doing is RIGHT or WRONG. This is the distinction which will eventually enable us to choose the RIGHT by sheer habit.

Everyone has in themselves both sagun and durgun (good qualities and bad qualities). What we become or what we can become is purely depended on which of those qualities you nurture.

Today I am making a promise to myself to nurture my sagun - provide food for thought to being a better human being. To be the change that you want the world to be.
For this first I should have the realization of what is sagun and what is a durgun. The same is described in detail in the 16th chapter of Bhagwat Gita.

I will delve into those details during my next blog.
